Owners like virtual rechecks because they don’t have to take time out of their day to bring their pet back into the clinic for a recheck and they get the added benefit of being able to send a text to the doctor if they have any questions once they get home.
As a veterinarian I like virtual rechecks because I get to see the results of my therapy. Before virtual care “no news was good news” and I rarely got to see my patients back who had positive outcomes because the owner didn’t want make a trip to the clinic or pay for an exam to find out from me that everything looked good.
From a financial standpoint virtual rechecks are good for the client and the clinic. The client is able to get a recheck exam for a lower price and the clinic realizes far more paid recheck exams.
In the past I was notorious for giving owners courtesy rechecks because I was worried the owner would leave disappointed if I charged her for a quick recheck. It seemed like better customer service to make the recheck a courtesy exam because they had already paid for the treatment.
Now, with virtual care our clients appreciate a less expensive recheck that they pay for at the time of diagnosis. We ask them to send a text and/or picture when the therapy is complete and invite them to ask any questions via Medici during therapy. We increase revenue and build a closer relationship with our patients and clients.
If you are thinking about introducing virtual care into your practice start with medical rechecks.
