In the past these owners would have to postpone care until their next paycheck or we would provide pro bono telemedicine via a telephone conversation. If the owner could describe the problem well enough and I was comfortable the condition could be safely treated, I would provide therapy without a trip to the clinic for a physical exam to help keep expense down.
Now with virtual care we have another, better option. Clients can get their veterinarian’s advice for about half the price of a physical exam and I can practice much better telemedicine. I get a much better idea of the problem because I don’t have to rely on just a verbal description over the phone. Clients send me pictures, movies and can video chat if needed.
Virtual care is a solution that allows me to be compensated for my professional services but more importantly provides better care to the pets of owners who have financial constraints.
